Optional sign-photo trial
From tester release 0.8.18, you can photograph or select a parking sign, preview/crop it and explicitly agree to send it for an experimental AI explanation. Camera permission is requested only when you take a photo. Image metadata is removed before the image is sent over HTTPS through our Railway server to DeepSeek. We do not attach GPS, saved places or vehicle/permit preferences. Avoid faces, number plates and other personal information. ParkOptio processes the image and response in memory without saving them on the server or logging their contents. Temporary app photos are removed when you remove/close the flow, or at next startup after a crash; gallery originals remain. A durable trial ledger stores random request IDs and reserved/charged amounts for the lifetime of the trial to enforce a shared USD 2 cap; it contains no images or responses. Cancel attempts to stop the request but cannot undo provider processing already started. DeepSeek may process data outside the EU under its Open Platform Terms; we have not verified a concrete image-retention period with the provider. This is a test explanation, not permission to park.
Search diagnostics
To diagnose slow or failed searches, our application logs record the search service used, HTTP method category, response status, server handling time and a new random request reference. These records do not contain search text, coordinates, selected parking times, vehicle choices, IP addresses, cookies or device identifiers. The reference changes with every request. These application logs are stored by our hosting provider under its operational log retention settings; separate hosting and third-party network logs can contain other information as described below.
Optional parking reports
From 0.8.9, Report incorrect information prepares a local draft with the selected parking place, its coordinates and source identifier, displayed estimate, selected parking times, app version, report category and your optional note. Review it before opening email or sharing. ParkOptio does not submit it automatically or save the draft after you close it. Vehicle preferences, your GPS origin and saved places are not attached. Sending through your chosen app shares the draft with that service and the recipient you choose; email drafts are addressed to fs.apps.dev@gmail.com.
Location and searches
When you choose Near me, the app requests foreground location permission. Your coordinates, or the map area you select, are sent over HTTPS to our Railway-hosted parking service with the city, search radius, arrival time and parking duration. We use them to return nearby parking and estimate prices. We do not request background location. You can decline location permission and search or move the map instead.
Service providers
Our server requests parking information from official Göteborg, Malmö, Stockholm, Linköping and Jönköping sources. Göteborg and Malmö requests can include the search area. Destination suggestions send your search text and an approximate location bias, rounded to two decimal places, to Photon at photon.komoot.io. Opening the map sends tile requests directly to OpenStreetMap; the map area, IP address and browser information are visible to that provider. Versions before 0.8.2 also load Leaflet code and styles from the unpkg CDN, which receives network metadata such as your IP address. Since 0.8.2, these files are bundled in the app. Railway processes network metadata including IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the service.
Resuming a search
From 0.8.15, the last selected search area, parking identifier, planned arrival and duration, filters and open card section are saved locally. Prices and source conditions are not saved in this session. On reopening or returning from another app, we request current results for the area and interval. Sessions older than 24 hours are discarded when next read; an expired planned arrival requires your correction. This local record is replaced by subsequent searches and removed by clearing app storage.
Saved on your device
Favourites, selected recent destinations and your language preference are stored on your device. Saved places can include names, coordinates and parking identifiers, but not saved prices. We do not maintain a ParkOptio account or a server-side favourites database. Android cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for app storage in release 0.8.0 and later. Map images may also be cached by the device. Starting with 0.8.8, optional vehicle type, electric/plug-in hybrid and parking-permit choices are stored locally to personalize warnings. These choices are not sent to our server; we do not ask for number plates or permit numbers.
Retention and deletion
Server search caches are held in bounded process memory and are replaced as searches fill the cache or when the service restarts. They are not a personal account history. Hosting and map providers maintain their own operational logs under their retention policies; clearing data on your phone does not erase those independent logs. Remove favourites using the star or My places, and clear recent destinations in My places. Reset choices in My vehicle removes the saved vehicle and permit preferences. Android Settings → Apps → ParkOptio → Storage → Clear storage removes local settings and saved places.
External actions and support messages
Directions send the selected parking destination to Google Maps. Payment buttons open an external provider; that provider handles any account, payment or parking session. Sharing uses your device share sheet. If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. We use this to answer your request and retain correspondence while needed to resolve it or meet legal obligations. Do not send passwords, card details or identity documents to app support.
Purpose and your choices
We process searches to provide the service you request, location when you enable it, and limited operational information to maintain and secure the service. We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, sell your personal data, or process parking payments. You can revoke location access in device settings, use manual search, delete local saved places, and contact us about your data rights. Where applicable, you may complain to the Swedish privacy authority, IMY.
International services and changes
The external services used by ParkOptio can process information outside Sweden and the EEA under their own data-protection arrangements. See the provider policies linked below. This page explains the current app. If our data practices change, we will update the policy date and any relevant in-app information.
